But not for Britain!

It must be in the small print.

In Germany I can't vote for local or Europe, which makes sense since I don't live there, but for Goverment election you have to be register in a German local authority (only possible when you live there, though).

Another think is, that Germans have personal i.d. cards, which by law they have to carry around ALL the time. However mine run out and I can't get a new one without be registered. The German embassy can just give me a passport, which is fine with me in Britain, but there is certainly something wrong in the system.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10983948.post-1113993290638315202005-04-20T11:34:00.000+01:002005-04-20T11:34:00.000+01:00Sorry, that URL should be http://www.aboutmyvote.c...Sorry, that URL should be http://www.aboutmyvote.co.ukStuarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01603444772602040390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10983948.post-1113988213233756392005-04-20T10:10:00.000+01:002005-04-20T10:10:00.000+01:00Oh and you probably aren't missing much Mr T., the...Oh and you probably aren't missing much Mr T., the general consensus seems to be there's a great deal of voter apathy in Britain, mainly because it's just the party name in power that seems to change, not the quality of government or policies.Stuarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01603444772602040390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10983948.post-1113988120046305002005-04-20T10:08:00.000+01:002005-04-20T10:08:00.000+01:00The deadline for postal voting is the 26th of Apri...The deadline for postal voting is the 26th of April so I have a few days to get my form in. Or I could just use the existing ballot that turned up on my doorstep since every corrupt daggit down here has done so.

PS: Torsten - have you tried to get on the electoral register and been refused? Read this website carefully, I think you are entitled. In fact it says,

"Who can register?

You can register to vote if you are:

* 16 years old or over; and
* a British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union citizen."

I am guessing Germany is still in the EU. :) Only problem is it also says, "the deadline for registering to vote in the May 2005 elections was 11 March. If you are not registered, you can register now to vote in future elections but you will not be able to vote on 5 May."

You should be able to post as "Torsten" or whomever by clicking "Other" on the Choose an Identity radio button that appears below the "Leave your comment" box you'd type your message in.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10983948.post-1113931253098930882005-04-19T18:20:00.000+01:002005-04-19T18:20:00.000+01:00Oh and btw Stu I did that quiz too:Your expected o...Oh and btw Stu I did that quiz too:

Your expected outcome:
Liberal Democrat

Your actual outcome:
Labour -29
Conservative -18
Liberal Democrat
UK Independence Party 21
Green 48

I am a Greenie! Come the revolution, comrades...

Mr Torsten if you're paying council tax you should get a vote automatically. A fairly insipid Belgian I knew got a polling card every election...despite him not really caring one way or the other. Ring the council and ask if you can be placed on the Voters' Roll (or electoral register). Mind you good ole egor had to do that about 4 times before we got ours....

To post without registering all you do is click on 'other' and post your name (or secret identity)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10983948.post-1113922450368380462005-04-19T15:54:00.000+01:002005-04-19T15:54:00.000+01:00How do I register my name without creating a blogg...How do I register my name without creating a blogger account?

TorstenAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10983948.post-1113922317562126972005-04-19T15:51:00.000+01:002005-04-19T15:51:00.000+01:00Here is something for democracy. I am German therefore I can't vote at a British general election even though I have been living here for the last 10 years, have a Scottish wife, Half-Scottish son and work for the Local Authority.

Well, fair enough. Why not vote in Germany you say. Because I can't vote their either! To vote there I have to be registered living in Germany!!!

Great, that leaves me local authorities and European election. Hmph.

TorstenAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10983948.post-1113895928313157272005-04-19T08:32:00.000+01:002005-04-19T08:32:00.000+01:00Same problem old bean, not a clue who to vote for ...Same problem old bean, not a clue who to vote for this time around. Not a single group is worth my vote, but I'm not going to not-vote (I hate double negatives).

Every time the Lib-Dem's start talking sense I have to have someone remind me they are a bunch of lying bastiges that rolled over on their backs and opened their @rseholes to get into power in Scotland and make tuition fees in the first place.

I normally vote SNP, but even they have been showing more than normal uselessness and are also worthy of derision.

Maybe its voter cynasysm or 'apathy' as we seem to be calling it now, but seeing as every party would be taking advice on how to run the country from EXACTLY the same groups of people leads me to wonder what the difference amoungst them is (Or maybe I'm still drunk this morning).

Not that I'm considering throwing away my vote by giving it to some loony right wing nutjob (or the SSP if it comes to that, but thats a different rant), but who does a center-left liberal vote for these days?

Labour? More right-wing than anyone except possibly the UKIP or Veritas. Some amazingly insane policies, and the party leadership seem to have their tongues permenantly grafted to that great god of commerce, ermmm I mean George Bush's, @rse.

Conservatives? 2/3s of them would drop dead on the spot if they beat Labour. They don't seem to have any policies except "LOOK WE'RE NOT LABOUR!!" (That goes visa versa for all the major parties I suppose) Do we really want the Count from Sesame Street leading the country? "One, two, three fiscal policies, ah ah ah..."

Lib Dems? Lying, lying bastiges who would sell out their policies, their Grannies, their own right nut to get a sniff of power, I really can't say more than that.

SNP? Have been almost anomymous in the Scottish Parliment are don't seem to be going anywhere but backwards.

This has gotten a bit longer than I meant, but I'm really just thinking out loud.

Still dunno who I'm going to vote for though... bugger.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
